The Tarot Coloring Book Theresa Reed Mary K Greer 9781622037902 Books Reviews

  • I want to include photos for those who want to know what is inside. I got this book for my 8 year old niece who is learning tarot. Each page has 1 large illustration of the card and 1 page of description, meanings, symbols, and reverse meanings.
I wish the illustrations were not so thick, but they are 100% from the card itself only magnified.
  • Update 4/07/18 This book is now being sold as a bound paperback instead of being spiral bound. It no longer lays flat for easy coloring. I edited my review and knocked off a star because that had been one of the best things about it.

This book has large, clear pictures of the Rider-Waite-Smith deck on thick paper. It contains both Major and Minor Arcana.

I've been reading Tarot cards for 25 years and I've always wanted a coloring book. Here's why I prefer this one to others
    - The lines are crisp and clean. If you stick to the standard color scheme, the pictures are dead ringers for the cards in the deck.
    - The pages are thick although you have to break the spine to get the book to lay flat, which is a necessity when you’re coloring. I use Derwent Ink Pencils with my book— you can probably get away with a few types of wet media without bleed-through.
    - This book includes the majors and the minors.

The attached picture shows a page in the book that I colored on the left vs. the corresponding card from the mini RW on the right. The left is the one I did! Amazingly realistic. That's just a sample page from the introduction; the rest of the book devotes an entire page to every card. You can see how detailed and true to the deck each card is.
  • Beautiful spiral bound large reproductions of the Rider Waite Smith tarot deck, major and minor arcana, with suggested colorings, and ideas to spark creativity for going outside of the suggestions. Theresa Reed has put together a gorgeous coloring book. Pages are thin, so markers may bleed through (the introduction warns about this), but this should not be a concern, as each left page is card meanings and symbols for the opposite coloring page on the right. Also this is the RWS with original styled card names (1971 version) and not later versions with computer perfect fonts on the cards. I feel those later decks lose something in the updating.

Update to my review - I purchased a second copy, intending to have the first follow the RWS standard and the second allowing me to color as I choose. Also brought it to my coloring group and "D" immediately decided to buy one for herself and another as a gift. Thank you Theresa Reed.
  • I am simply delighted with this book! The Tarot Coloring Book by Theresa Reed is a wonderful concept - hands on learning through the fun medium of coloring. Since I enjoy both the tarot and coloring I knew this book would be for me & I was right. There is so much to love about this book that I’ll be reviewing it from two different perspectives first as a tarot learning tool & also as a fun and creative coloring book.

This book is perfect for those new to tarot. The author breaks down the sometimes daunting task of learning the meaning of each card into easy to handle pieces. She avoids the mystical babble and brings it down to earth & keeps it real with a relaxed narrative style I love. Add to that the concept of coloring as a learning tool & you’ve got a winning combination for success. But it’s not just for those new to tarot. I am thrilled at how useful (and fun!) it has already been for me as an experienced tarot reader. The meditative act of coloring the cards has already helped me to connect with them on a deeper level and to rediscover details & qualities I’d begun to overlook. I am particularly intrigued with using this book to explore those few cards that I’ve never connected with & almost dread coming across in a reading and to “make friends” with them.

If you love adult coloring books, you must give this one a try. It’s a good size (8 1/2 x 11), is spiral bound so it lays flat and is printed on good quality paper. I think you’ll find the imagery of the tarot a compelling subject. The images themselves are lovely & quite large and are set off by a wonderful grayscale border. As with most coloring books, colored pencils and gel pens are my preferred media and they work beautifully on this paper. I may try a adding touch of sparkle using my Finetec gold watercolors. There is also plenty of space to add your own personality with scrapbooking techniques on the text pages.

So whether you are new to tarot, interested in deepening your tarot practice or looking for a new and exciting coloring adventure I highly recommend this book.
  • Theresa Reed is the real deal. She is genuine, generous, grounded and an incredibly gifted Tarot reader. And the only person who could inspire me to purchase a coloring book for myself. (I haven't been a fan of the whole adult coloring movement.)
This book is beautiful and informative. I am very new to Tarot and I am loving the opportunity to learn more about it in this experiential way.
The book makes a lovely gift as well. If you're looking for nice pencils, I purchased these and really like them. Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, Soft Core, 72-Count
  • Theresa Reed's "Tarot Coloring Book" is so much more than what I'd expected. Every card is explained in clear, concise terms. The large pictures lend themselves to learning the tarot by coloring them traditionally, or using your own color symbolism. I would recommend this fun-to-use book to any of my students--beginners and journeymen. It is an entertaining and reliable reference book for those who are wondering what tarot is all about, for those who may wish to experiment with creating a deck of their own, and those who want a different kind of tarot journal to plot their life course. Theresa Reed shares her years of experience in a lovely way. Thank you, Theresa!
